6a00e0098ae0f3883301347fbdb0fe970cWelcome Mike Zoltek, new contributor to Crossing Broad!

With opening week waiting in the wings, I could sit here
and spit out facts, opinions, all that nonsense, but we know all the trivial
details… Chase Utley is hot (if you’re a female, or in the man crush club), Roy
Halladay rules, and Ryan Howard is the MVP. That’s why I’m here to talk about a
more important topic, a topic everyone should know before attending a game at CBP,
and that is what to eat, where to eat it, and what’s new in 2010.

First, let’s start off with what’s new… The “South
Philly Dog” (try keeping your tongues in your mouth), is an all beef hot dog
topped with broccoli rabe, roasted hot peppers, sharp provolone cheese, and
served on a nice crusty Italian roll. This amazing treat can be found behind
section 125 at the Hatfield grill cart.

Also new are the following: Iced Coffee & Cappuccino
(Behind section 128 at the South Philly Market), Roasted and Salted Pistachios
(at select Brewerytown/vending Stands), and sweet ‘n salty kettle corn (behind
the left field scoreboard).  Yes, the
folks at Aramark love salt….  They have also improved the Alley Grill in
the left field plaza, as it now contains burgers, milk shakes, fries, chicken
sambos, and black bean burgers.

And of course if you have lived inside a barn or under a
rock, and don’t know what’s already there to eat, here are a list of the best
places to go and where to find them…

McNally’s: (in the concourse right next to the left field foul pole) They
have the
Schmitter which in my
opinion is the best sandwich you can get in the park.  It’s a steak on a Kaiser roll, with cheese,
tomato, fried onions, fried salami, and special sauce (basically big mac sauce)…
fantastic, and doesn’t typically have a long wait.  (Editor’s note: the girl serving the
Schmitter, has the sort of trashy hotness that excites the carnivorous ID in
all of us)

Bulls BBQ: This is on the complete other side of the park from McNally’s
(concourse by the right field foul pole) and has tons of choices: pulled pork,
brisket, giant turkey legs, you name it… they have it, and everything is good
(I highly recommend the bulldog).  There
may seem like there’s a long line, but it moves quickly.

Chickie’s n Pete’s: is right where Bulls BBQ is, if you’re facing it… turn around,
and get yourself some crab fries.

Tony Luke’s: In Ashburn alley, if you don’t know what they sell, then someone
will come by shortly to break your knees.

Campos: Also in Ashburn Alley, good cheese steaks, if you like
your kung pao spicy get yourself a
heater… they are fantastic.

Planet Hoagie: Also in Ashburn Alley.
They make hoagies, no grinders however…

There’s also a nacho stand near 122, that has amazing
chicken nachos.
