"When they built that damn ballpark, we didn't have a prayer. They started printing money and hitting shorter home runs,’’ Atlanta president John Schuerholz on the emergence of the Phillies as an NL East power coinciding with the team’s move into Citizens Bank Park.  [Fox Sports]

Wow.  Braves President John Schuerholz is already preparing the excuses.  He does realize that away teams get the benefit of the shallow porch in left field too, right?

Again, it’s comments like this that separate the pretenders from the contenders.  Have the Phillies built a club around CBP’s favorable dimensions?  Sure.  But you don’t win three straight (about to be four, asshole) NL East Championships by accident.  Instead of whining about it, why doesn’t Schuerholz improve his team?  A club with Halladay, Oswalt, and Hamels would probably be pretty successful playing in that par 5 in Atlanta as well.

Charlie Manuel was on 610 WIP later in the day, he said "I tell our guys, champions can play anywhere."  Love. This.  Man.

H/T to Sean Croce for the tip.
