It seems we may have helped contribute to NHL linesman Steve Miller's removal from playoff duty. Our video, which was posted at the end of January, featured clips taken from YouTube showing Miller as the person who picked up Patrick Kane's Stanley Cup winning puck.
Our motive was simple: When a Chicago bar, Harry Caray's Restaurant, offered a $50,000 reward for the missing puck, we thought we would clear Chris Pronger as the "suspect" (again, it's a puck). In doing so, we found videos which seemed to show Miller as the one who picked it up. Last week, Wayne Drehs of ESPN.com cited our video in a lengthy Outside the Lines piece about the puck. Last night, Bob McKenzie of TSN, who also cited our video along with the ESPN article, wrote about how Miller has been taken off active duty for the playoffs:
"We do not know where the (missing) puck is and Steve says he does not know where the puck is," NHL spokesman Gary Meagher told TSN. "We 100 per cent believe Steve and we fully stand behind him. But in the best interests of the league, and Steve, we felt the best course of action for everyone was to take him off his assignments at this time."
Oops.
In making the video, my intent was never to get anyone in trouble. It was simply to find out if Pronger had the puck. It kind of took on a life of its own after that. It was fairly obvious - and has been confirmed by the FBI with "100% certainty" - that Miller picked up the puck. Miller, however, denies ever seeing it. You can read all about it here, if you haven't already.
Carry on.
UPDATE 1: Steve Miller has been re-assigned to the playoffs.
UPDATE 2: Last night CBC released video which CLEARLY shows Miller picking up the puck, yet Miller denies ever seeing it. Odd. Here's the video- around the three minute mark.

This is going to send Jack Edwards into a fucking tizzy.
And to see what's left of the Sabres' season, click here. It's quite literally going down the drain in this eery video. I can't help but think of Keyser Soze pissing on that boat.

It's Friday. There have been no games played in two days, the Eagles drafted a fire fighter, and I'm going on little sleep. This is what you get.
Here's Carts, Car Bomb, and - I think - Andreas Nodl (or Simon Gagne's doppelganger) taking in the Penn Relays today. Has anyone else noticed that they all wear New Era caps? Why? Because they like the way they fit. That's why. Mike Richards via Twitter:
Ok so today I was given a lot of nice hats from New Era. 3 phillies hats to go along with the other 3 I have but also some other teams. Apologize in advance for wearing the hats. I just like how they fit.
Some asshole must be in his head about the Yankees caps...
Anyway, Carts, who could be spotted a mile away with his sloped shoulders, white v-neck, and I'm a little bit better than you stance (notice placing weight on left knee, however), is rocking a Phillies hat (applause), unlike Carcillo... who is wearing a Giants cap.
Let's recap: This is how you support the local teams.
Or this.
But not this, Dan:
Or this.
What time does Game 1 start?
If you want to read about the actual game, not hats at the Penn Relays, but the game, not hats, the game, then check out Ryan Bright's piece on Jeff Carter (that didn't sound right), who gets a golf clap for today's New Era hat choice.

It turns out Patrick Kaleta broke his hand during the second period of Game 6. He will have surgery on Monday. Karma, however, continues to be a bitch.
And do you remember when Jim Jackson and Bill Clement joked about Jason Pominville's reaction - tossing the stick and gloves - to what they thought was a skate blade problem? Well, as you know, Pominville was cut. It turns out he severed a tendon in his leg and will be out for 4-6 MONTHS. That sucks, for real.
And now, sad Ryan Miller.
Must watch video for those of you who take pleasure in other people's misery... after the jump. Now if the Phillies or Flyers would play a game soon, we could stop making fun of other cities.

This doesn't need much of a description, but the broke New York Mets are doing anything they can to fill seats. Short of making Bobby Bonilla and Bret Saberhagen earn their money by playing seat filler, the Mets are getting creative with selling tickets. Like this commercial from the winter, and now, social buying discounts.
You can get tickets to see the Dodgers and the WORLD CHAMPION Giants for just $27 on Travelzoo!
The Amazin' Mets, folks.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Derek Lowe was arrested last night for driving under the influence, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Lowe was stopped last night around 10:00 pm in the ATL. A spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol shared brief details on the incident.
The trooper "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" and gave Lowe a field sobriety test, Wright said. Lowe refused to take a state-administered alcohol test, he said.
Wright said Lowe was also charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.
There's no word on how this event will affect him on the field. The Braves begin a three-game series with the Phillies next Friday. If everything stays as is, Lowe should start in the first of those games.
Way to go, champ.
UPDATE! Derek Lowe was racing somebody.

Isn't this a Tony Danza movie?
Watkins talked about his age.
“I don’t see it as an issue. I just took a different path to get here,” said Watkins. “I’m not collecting my 401K by any means. My body is fresh and I’ve been out in the world, and worked. I’ve met a lot of guys that are 19, 20 and this is their first job. I know what I need to do — coming to work and being mature about it.”
Are you surprised?

Last night Chase and Jennifer Utley hosted their 4th annual Chase Utley All-Star Animals Casino Night at the Electric Factory to raise money for the Pennsylvania SPCA's efforts to fight animal cruelty. Thanks to our friends from GM of the Northeast for hooking me up with a sweet GMC Acadia to take to the event. It fit right in with the Bentleys and 7 Series in the parking lot...
Most of the Phillies were there, including Chase, Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, Brad Lidge, Ryan Madson, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Kyle Kendrick, Ben Francisco, Cole Hamels, Danys Baez, and Mike Zagurski, among others. Heidi Hamels, Jen Utley, Cindy Francisco (CinFran!), Stephenie Kendrick, Johari Rollins, Krystle Campbell, Lindsey Lidge, and Mike Zagurski's girlfriend (?) were all there. Sadly, no Brandy Halladay or Kristen Lee. More sadly, I knew most of those names without even looking them up.
I was there to take pics. There's a photo gallery after the jump. I may have overdone it with the Chase and Cliff pics... There's also a short video. It's not too exciting, but don't pretend like you won't watch it.
Hop it.

That shirt... is the greatest article of Philly athlete clothing ever worn in public. I dare you to prove me wrong. Looks like Harts got it from a company called Brooklyn Industries.
Apparent Phillies hat? Check (take notes, Mike).
Organic Eco-Heather Jaws spoof slim-fit? Meow.
Laid back what the fuck am I doing at the Zoo taking a picture with a guy in a propane (and propane accessories?) t-shirt look? Check. Check. And triple fucking check. No word on if he fell down shortly after this photo was taken.
As we ramp things up here to prepare for Flyers-Bruins Round 2 in, um, Round 2... let's look back at a few highlights of our friends to the naaaath. Boston: Beautiful city, shitty human beings.
- We'll post this again. Bruins fans throw condoms at CB writer Adam Gonsiewskiketchupandrelish.
- The Bruins awful marketing campaign from last year.
- And a video via Barstool of a Canadiens fan being serendaed at Game 7 last night. He's the guy in the centre of the screen. This is actually pretty funny. But they're still assholes.
