And the show goes on…

As we had mentioned back in June, the Phillies may be in on Jim Thome. Here's what I had written:

Even though this is nothing more than hearsay at this point, acquiring Thome would have Disney-like undertones: Aging star returns to former team to play for beloved mentor and helps team win World Series. Of course, there's also the M. Night Shyamalan version, which tells us that Thome has really been dead since 2006 (no seasons since with over 100 RBI, and a 4-for-29, 1 RBI performance in last three postseasons combined).

I like the Disney angle better, however.

Rube is in take mode right now.

  1. All for picking up Thome as a bat off the bench, assuming it costs next to nothing. Can’t imagine the Twins would want much for him. I’d like him a lot more than Giambi.

  2. Oh god… the executives are out doing eachother. When roseman signs plax ruben will announce this and the ubaldo jimenez deal.

  3. Hey Homer, pay attention. This is how you do it.

Please bring back Thome to win a ring! That would be very cool!

  5. How about if Thome hit his 600th here.

  6. Jim Thome for Nostalgia reasons…
… Oh, and you’d better have a Huntergasm segment with all the hype postings.

  8. Keep Disney productions in the theater. I’d prefer Mike Adams over Thome.

  9. I was sitting at a bar in Clearwater back in March and overheard the man sitting next to me on the phone. He was talking to a man named Charlie and kept reassuring him, talking about a deal, and dropping buzz words such as “LaRussa” and “Francona”. It didn’t take me too long to figure out who was on the other end. He hung up and after a few beers, I mustered up the courage to ask this man if he was Charlie Manuel’s agent. He was/is. He’s also Jim Thome’s agent. He told me Jim Thome wants to finish his career in Philadelphia, amongst other things.

  12. The Phillies performed their (annual?) Southwest duties today (never mind that Delta is their official charter). Pictured above is Shane Victorino, John Mayberry Jr., the broadcast team, and, of course, the Phanatic “working” the tarmac.
