Right-handed bat: Hunter Pence is already paying immediate dividends. The presence of his right-handed bat forced Pirates manger Clint Hurdle to remove Joe Beimel with one out in the eighth inning yesterday. He replaced him with righty Jose Veras, who got Pence to ground into a frightening fielder’s choice. Not wanting to burn another lefty, Hurdle allowed Veras to pitch to Raul Ibanez. Boom: two-run home run. Tie game. Right-handed bat, folks.

Let’s hit it.

– We have a winner in our Drinker's Philadelphia “when will Rube make a big move?” contest. The Phillies confirmed the trade via Twitter and release shortly after 10 P.M, Friday. The Tweet came through at 10:20. Since no one correctly guessed the 10-11 o’clock hour, we will give the $25 Drinker's gift certificate to the closest entrant, John Russo, who had 11-12. John, check your inbox shortly.

Don’t forget to stop by Drinker’s this week for the late games. Dollar dogs, late night style.
