Yesterday Michael Vick wouldn’t answer a question about owning a dog and told reporters that his “personal life is not to be talked about.” I thought he was full of shit. Of course it’s to be talked about! He just can't sneeze without it being carefully orchestrated by a PR handler. So today, we have a statement… released to TMZ (UPDATE: and others):

I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet.  As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.

I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God's creatures with kindness and respect.  Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.

This is an opportunity to break the cycle.  To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.

Think about that– he had to release a statement to say he owns a dog. How fucking ridiculous is that? Whether you care or not about him owning one (I don’t), this is Exhibit A why everything Michael Vick says is complete bullshit. Or, put more lightly, part of a carefully planned effort to perfect his image.

Anyway, you can thank your favorite local sports blog, specifically our contributor Adam Reigner, for turning this into a story
