Boo? Fuck you.

Here’s what Chase Utley told Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen last night when asked if coming out to San Francisco helps the team re-focus:

“Yeah, I think so. Obviously, they have a great fan base out here, they’re into the game, obviously booing us. But that makes it exciting. The last few games at home we didn’t play that well, the fans let us hear about it, and it doesn’t boost your confidence that way.”

See, I have no problem with this. He could have gone the Jimmy Rollins route and criticized the fans, but he was just answering honestly as to how boos affect players. You’re treading on thin ice with comments like that though. He was one sentence away from sticking his foot in his mouth. But he didn’t. So we’re cool. If there’s one guy who doesn’t give a shit what comes from the crowd, it’s Utley. Sometimes I’m convinced he doesn’t even know what year it is while he’s on the field. He just sees balls, pitch counts and that little patch of hair on his chin he sometimes bites on. Chase gets, like, 10 years worth of benefit of the doubt before we call this a whiny comment.

Utley had three hits and a home run last night.
