Oh Hey, Sergei Bobrovsky Has an Opinion on Philly

Screen Shot 2013-07-03 at 9.47.26 AMHere’s how I imagine Sergei Bobrovsky feeling about Philly: People Philly are greats. They make my name a chant, from movie “Bob What About.” They organization fly me to Canada for rendezvous with wife intend Olga who is not permit in USA. And they do me favor to ship me out behind another Russian, who make too much cash. I win trophy. Thank you, Flyers, for doing me unnecessary favor.

Instead, Sergei Bobrovsky had this to say about Philly when asked about Ilya Bryzgalov during his press conference this morning to announce his two-year deal with Columbus:

“Philly is a severe city for the goalies. Bryz was under pressure and I fully understand him. Medias’ and fans’ opinions weigh too much in Philly. Sometimes those are contradictory.”

Yes, sometimes those are contradictory. But Bob was treated quite well here, by both fans and media. Though he usually relied on his English struggles to avoid the likes of sexy Rob Parent and Randy Miller.

Anyway, he’s a Vezina winner, and perhaps more impressively, he understands Bryz.

    Fuck that commie Putinist

  3. 1. He’s 10% correct. The media and fans in this town grab one or two guys per sport and whips them constantly and puts all of the blame for the team’s, ctiy’s, world’s struggles on that player’s shoulders. (Cunningham, Barkley, Lindros, McNabb, Ryan Howard, Bryzgalov, etc.)

    2. He won the Vezina trophy for two good months of hockey after being a mediocre to bad goalie for two seasons who any time the pressure was put on his shoulders he wilted. He’ll be in the KHL after his latest contract runs out in 2015.

Bryzgalov’s tenure here was bizarre and his play was fucking horrible. Of all the athletes you listed he absolutely most deserved the shit he took here.

    • His play wasnt horrible dude. It just wasn’t as good as when he was in Phoenix. I mean he did have that goalless streak of 5 games. Yeah he was horrible! Defense and forwards playing defense had a lot to do with his play too

  5. I love how he leaves Philadelphia and magically is able to speak English. “Contradictory” is a pretty big word for someone who struggles with the language. Wait til he has to play the Eastern Conference teams next season. He will be exposed. Badly.

He was good when he was here, but not great. He, like Bryz, hated traffic in front of the net. Russian net-minders like the wide open, “play the shooting lanes,” style of play. That’s why you rarely see Ruskie goalies succeed in the East. There’s a reason why Bryzgalov only played for Western Conference teams before he came to the Flyers.

I know this is complicated, but when you are 22 and learning and language, its possible to get better at speaking at as you progress.

      • I know this is “Complicated” to hear, but I boned your mom last night. And this morning she made me pancakes. Chocolate chip pancakes.

        Lincoln, out.

My mom is 65 years old and 275 pounds. Way worse for you than me, bro.

          • Well, I’m 181 years old with a gaping gunshot wound in the back of my head. I think I’m doing pretty good for myself given the circumstances. 275 lbs of pure woman that mother of yours is too, boy howdy.

    • The east has one good team in Boston. The rest blow.

Bob has a point, an important one. Only the starting quarterback for the Eagles faces more scrutiny and pressure from fans and the media in this town than the human pinata that plays goalie for the Flyers. Perhaps if the organization hadn’t spent the last quarter century plus parading a ridiculous collection of has-beens (John Vanbiesbrouck), never-weres (Michael Leighton) and whackjobs (Roman Cechmanek, Iyla Bryzgalov) through Philly to flail and fail, maybe the situation today with their netminders wouldn’t be a fraction as bad. Hell, the Flyers might even have won a Cup or two during that timeframe. I’m not going to begrduge Bob his opinion because I think he’s right.

  7. Bob had a great year and deserving of vezina. People are over looking Bob didnt have a overload of work this past season. It was a 48 game season. He didnt have martin brouder load of games. True test comes if he can play 50+ games this upcoming season.

Goaltenders are successful only if the defensive system they are playing works. Lavy’s system leaves the goaltender on a island sometimes. Do people actually think Brouder won those cups by himself or was it the defensive system they have in jersey? He won those cups because himself and the system they have was successful.

As for Flyers, i wont mind thomas coming in. Maybe he help mason on how to deal in pressure enviroment.

I really do think flyers goalies problems go back to old saying 90% of flyers goaltenders problems is media fault.

Wonder if Bob ever had a Byob tailgate

  9. I think there is a pattern here….it seems that athletes who leave philly often find success with their next employer and shit on the philly media and fans….just saying maybe the media has a part to do with it, maybe the fans have a part to do with it, maybe the player isnt strong willed enough to deal with it

that being said i still put an asterisk next to this season because it was a half season so, besides the cup because the playoffs didnt change, all regular season awards arent valid

  10. This, from Grantland, on Bryzgalov’s contract and the ROFLyers in general:

What were they thinking?: “We’re the Flyers and this is a decision involving goaltending so WHEEEE!”

Was it terrible?: It may be the worst of all the deals on this list, and that’s saying something. Not only did the Flyers spend a ton of money on two years of disappointing goaltending, but they had to trade Richards and Carter to make room to do it. Oh, and the backup they traded away last year just won the Vezina. And now their starting goalie is Steve Mason. Yes, that Steve Mason.

Let’s all go back and read that last paragraph with “Yakety Sax” playing in the background.

Face it. They’re a fucking joke.

  13. I am so fucking sick of these red bastards. Stick to the Bob Clarke company line, no Russians allowed. You can’t come from a fuckin miserable, poor, drug/alcohol ravaged country like that with no freedom and be normal. No more please.

  14. Tough week of work, huh?

  15. Kyle – the holiday doesn’t start until tomorrow if you haven’t flipped your calendar from June. Do some effing work and post some articles. Don’t say you are at the beach trying to look for Jeff Carter at the OD. You are at home surfing the internet for wedding invitation ideas. DO SOME REAL WORK FOR ONCE.

  19. systems is why those russians didnt fair well here– bobrovsky will be in KHL in 3 years never to be heard from again and Steve Mason will have 3 years of solid playoff experience with momentum to the future in Philadelphia

  20. Six Super Bowls; Three Stanley Cups

    July 3, 2013 at 7:03 pm

Geez. Seems to me that you’d have to be a pretty pathetic franchise to struggle forever to find a decent goalie, yet trade a Vezina winner who was under your nose so that you could sign a skittish, at-best-average and mentally challenged goalie for a trillion dollars.

Makes the fact that you people haven’t sniffed a cup in nearly 40 years seem less shocking. Everyone laughs at you.

Man, you’ve got some sour grapes. And for what?…? Still mad about sid getting his shit rocked? getting embarrassed by the Flyers last year? Boston this year? You should hit the pens blog and bitch about your own sorry goalie situation. You are seriously pathetic being on here everyday. Does your city/dirt farmer rural incest breeding ground of a town in western Pa suck that bad? You can move here if its that bad, provided you step up your bank account figures.

  21. Kyle loves his vacations & so do I pussies

  22. Pannacio needs to castrate bob and send him back to the ussr.

  23. Funny how Vladislov Tretiak became the Devils goalie coach for that Brodeur guy.

If Tim Thomas signs with the Flyers, the NSA will bug the locker room.

No Phillies update today so here’s one.

Jimmy Rollins came up to the plate just now with men on second and third with two outs, swung from his feet for strike one popup foul, swung from his feet for strike two popup foul, swung from his feet for strike three strikeout. Great signing Rube he’s not an overrated shwug at all.
