Wayne Simmonds on Bryz

Bryz_sleepingThere were some connected folks who believed that it would be only a matter a time after Bryz left that teammates would speak publicly about how he wasn’t well-liked. Brayden Schenn went easy on him – “I don’t know. Everyone knows Bryz is Bryz. Some people may think he’s a little different, but I’m not going to say one way or another. I’m sure you guys [reporters] know how Bryz was.” - when he spoke with Sam Carchidi of Philly.com last month. But Wayne Simmonds was a bit more blunt, if not succinct, when he was on sports talk radio in Canada this week:

“I think (the change) will help guys out, nothing against Bryz or anything,” Simmonds, 24, told Brady and Lang in the Morning on Thursday. “When Mase (goaltender Steve Mason) came in last year, he played really strong for us. And you look at what Razor (Emery) did with Chicago, I think we got a great one-two tandem there. They can battle it out.”

That’s hardly damning. A loving sendoff it is not, however.

When Bryz left Phoenix, a few teammates complained about his desire and attitude. Neither Schenn nor Simmonds went quite that far, but you get the sense that more guys will weigh in as time goes by. And that’s not just my opinion– I’ve heard or read several accounts – public and not – about how much Bryz was disliked.

  1. I remember Jagr not wanting to sit with him in the HBO show 24/7. From what I gather it wasn’t that he was a bad guy, just that he was extremely annoying.

I think Jagr said something about always eating lunch on his own. Zolnierczyk eventually sat with Bryzgalov and was basically mocking him the entire conversation.

      • lol, that’s right, I forgot Z went and sat with him…he did just make fun of him the whole time…good stuff.

  2. Bryz disliked by his teammates? Well color me fucking surprised.

  3. At least Wayne has his boy emery to hang with now

  4. I’d bet money that Bryz will be in the KHL next season cuz no NHL team wants him.

I’m going to miss Bryzgalov’s neck pimples.

  6. In Soviet Russia, try play on ice better to bond with teammates in locker room!

  7. Mason and Emery are two back up goalies. The LeCavalier deal was great but the defense still blows, Laviolette is still the coach and there’s no scoring depth.

The fans, media and apparently the players themselves will realize by Christmas that Bryzgalov wasnot the problem.

DT is the guy that screams SHOOT! on the power play then turns to the people next to him and says if they would have just shot the puck we would have been up 4-0 by now.

You’re an idiot Bryz was a cancer and stole ZERO games. You are the guy that says it was the D fault and Bryz was not the problem. News flash the guy got paid how much do be a top goalie in the league and ranked at the bottom in every category.

Let me guess you will bring up the time he won player of the month and had a sellout streak COOL!

    • Let I said, it’s all on Bryz. Not on anyone else.

Let me know how that mentality works out for you.

I didn’t say Bryz was the best goalie in the world, or even worth his contract (which was NOT “top goalie” money, no matter how many times you idiots repeat that- he had the NINTH highest cap hit in the league going into this year before he was bought out. “Top” goalie money is top 5). I just said he wasn’t the reason they weren’t in the playoffs. If you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you.

Other than have fun ripping into Mason, Emery, and every other goalie that ever comes here. Because none will ever be good enough for you jackasses.
