Ilya Bryzgalov, Still Not Employed, is Coaching His Son’s South Jersey Hockey Team

So, Ilya Bryzgalov is still door jockeying in the Philly area… only now he seems to be much more alert and engaged.

I mentioned this on Great Sports Debate this week – that Ilya Bryzgalov hadn’t moved or sold his $3.9 million house yet and that his son was playing Mite hockey in South Jersey – and now, thanks to several readers and Twittererererers, we have photographic proof.

Behold, Bryz coaching at a Mites tournament at IceWorks in Aston on Saturday:

His son is a goalie for the Jaguars and wears number 30, just like his dad. But what’s oh-so-rich, if not expected, is that Bryz’s kid is still rocking the orange and black (as well he should, since Mr. Snider is paying his dad $1.64 million per year for the next 14 years to coach him straight on through to University). That’s 3-0 with the Flyers mask:

Those in attendance say that Bryz is great with the kids and even signed autographs and took pictures with fans:

And Bryz has every reason to be upbeat. He might not have a job, but he is the first Mite assistant coach ever with a 14-year, $23 million contract.

Well, good for him. Ed Snider is a fool and he has money. You know what they say about that.

  2. I actually harbor very little ill feelings towards Bryz. His situation is/was a testament to how atrocious Flyers management (and ownership) is.

  3. Hope Bryz doesn’t have any Sandusky in him

  4. Cool stuff indeed. Glad he’s happy and in no rush to play in the NHL.

  5. Photographic proof? You say that as if he was caugh pants down with a hooker. Proof of what? That hes coaching pee wee hockey and isnt actually some mental patient like you make him out to be, Kyle? Whats the fuckin point of this? He shouldn’t coach his son because the idiotic flyers management is making him filthy rich? He shouldve just rejected the money?

The guy stunk, but you act like hes such a stain on society for taking the money given to him…Yeah, hes no good, but I guess you massing the cataldi fanbase into following him around and posting irrelevant personal matters of his that are nobody’s business but his is sooo morally just and noble. I couldnt give a shit how you make your living, Kyle, but sstop being a hypocritical douchebag and stop acting like what you do is somehow a morally justifiable deed, just because the people you attack are rich.

  6. Bryz was great with the kids when we saw him on sat. He stopped and took pics with my son and his teammates and was as friendly as you could expect. He may not be a good NHL goaltender but he definitely isn’t a bad guy.

Better news is that Pittsburgh is considering signing him since Vokun is hurt

    • How is that better news?

The guy has been a good goalie in the league and had his worst two seasons here. I wouldn’t expect him to be that bad again, until he’s too old to play at an NHL level again.

No, our worst nightmare is Bryz lifting the Cup in a Pens jersey while we’re still paying him. And it just might fucking happen. Because this town- organization, media and fans alike- are fucking retarded when it comes to how we handle the goalie position.
