Sean Brace, Jon Marks and the blondes are in action on Day 2

WOW! A LATE SURGE AND A COMEBACK BY WIP’S JOSH INNES GIVES THE PHILLY SPORTS MEDIA FIELD OF 64 ITS FIRST MOMENT OF MADNESS.

Last night, Innes had me on his show to discuss the PSMFO64 (which might be the worst acronym ever– it looks like Pissy Motherfucker). He whipped listeners hard for votes, and the late push has paid off. Innes, who was trailing Spike Eskin 52-48 at around 10 p.m., won the first round matchup in the WIP Region going away, 59-41.

Voila_Capture 2014-03-18_08-52-26_AMThat was easily the most exciting battle of the first day of games. Though Innes’ producer, Adam Reigner (a CB contributer from time to time), was a beneficiary of the late push and wound up giving heavy favorite Angelo Cataldi a real scare. Cataldi won by the same score of 59-41.

The announcement of the field captured a city’s imagination. Debate focused largely on the Writers Region, where the omissions of big names such as Matt Gelb, Mike Sielski and Bob Ford spoke louder than those who received bids. In the WIP Region, Ray Didinger’s 13 seed spawned outrage amongst fans. “That dude is an institution in Philadelphia and you’re treating him like a podunk mid-major,” commenter Abe Lincoln complained. “Fucking criminal.”

Meanwhile, local media discussed the seedings and shilled for votes online. Mike Missanelli and Jason Myrtetus broke down the regions on 97.5 [might need to bump up the volume here]:

Others took to the social medias:

Without further teasing, here are the full results from Day 1. You can view the full bracket here. Despite lots of controversy surrounding the selection committee and its seedings, it was all chalk in the 1-16, 8-9 games:

No surprises here. DeCamara won a close battle with Phil From Mt. Airy.

The higher seed won, but this was a surprising and strong showing from Dei Lynam. She just throttled Jamie Apody right from the tip.

Zolecki was just too much to handle for Cooney. In the other match, McLane won a real physical battle. Tensions escalated early when Les was actually T’d up for throwing a punch. McLane shrugged it off and stiff-armed Bowen from overtaking the lead. After the game, he complained the Les was stealing plays.

On to Day 2 matchups– the 5-12, 4-13 games:
