Chase Utley Walked It Off for the First Time in Seven Years Last Night

I had no idea that the last time Chase Utley had a walk-off hit was his famous 2007 walk-off against Billy Wagner and the Mets. Think about that for a second: Chase Utley didn’t have one walk-off hit since the Phillies won their first division title in the modern era until last night. Mind-blowing.

A note about Chase Utley’s hair: Some things never change, like the mentality of this crowd… and Utley’s hair. Last night:

Utley in 2007 (albeit grainy):

IT HASN’T MOVED.

Far be it from me to tell Chase Utley what to do with his sexy, but he basically has two looks when his hat or helmet comes off: greased back surfer and messy, oddly long-stranded, looks-like-a-mid-90′s-bowl-cut surfer. The walk-off look is the latter and I think it’s time something changed. Maybe short, but more plentiful strands? Maybe a near buzz. I think Chase Utley could pull off a buzz. Maybe full Werth. Whatever. But it’s striking how little Chase’s hair has changed in seven years as he’s matured from exciting heartthrob to greying, veteran heartthrob.

Anyway, here’s video of the 2007 walk-off because I miss Harry.

  4. Wow. Hard to not become completely depressed after watching/listening to that video. So much awesomeness just completely gone, a thing of the past.

  5. Dude …. you’re bordering on gay-blade hair styling commentary. Let’s keep it real in here…now scurry off and scratch your balls….

Our division is so fucking bad… Nats would be in 3rd place in the other two. Imagine where we could be if Ruben and his band of blowjobs didn’t destroy us.

Not an empty seat in that stadium. Hard to believe, Harry. Those were the days.

    Thanks Ruben. Thanks a lot.

Hearing Wheels makes me actually hate Tom McCarthy even more.

    sigh.

  8. Not surprised he doesn’t have a walk-off hit in the last few years. Chase tends to get credit for having a good eye but it seems like teams are just pitching around him in those situations in order to get to the league leader in strikeouts.

  9. No shocker here. With Rollins always batting before and not getting on base much and Howard or a bench bat following him he’s not going to see many hitable pitches in high leverage situations.

  10. Players that were in that video that are still on this team:

    Utley
    Howard
    Rollins
    Ruiz
    Hamels
    Kendrick

    That was 7 years ago.

    Thanks rube

By July 31st Chase could be playing on the West Coast. This could have been his swan song.
