As players are making certain predictions based on whatever, individual player predictions about this season can be made by looking at statistics. And if LeSean McCoy has an average year, he’ll set the Eagles Franchise Rushing Record.

With the numbers he has now, he’d already hold the franchise record in New England and Houston, and will pass the franchise leaders for Kansas City (Priest Holmes), Tampa Bay (James Wilder), and New Orleans (Deuce McAllister) on his way to passing Wilbert Montgomery’s current franchise mark. He’ll also have to slip by Steve van Buren (5860) and Brian Westbrook (5995) to get there. And as I said above, with just an average year for McCoy of 1,094 yards, he’ll surpass Montgomery’s franchise record by 29 yards.

It took Montgomery 1465 attempts over 100 games to set the record where it is today (6538 yards), which is right about the pace McCoy is at — if he breaks it in the last game of this year, it’ll be in his 90th game and he’s about 300 touches behind Montgomery, but I’d be surprised if he got that many.

According to the Inquirer, when Shady was told how close he was to the record, “McCoy smiled and said: ‘That’s it?'” He continued, saying:

“I won’t say [it’s] a given. Nothing’s a given, but that’s another goal to put into my list of things to get done. Hopefully guys up front, blocking the way they’ve been blocking the last couple of years, hopefully I get it done.”

It might take the whole season, but if he stays healthy, I don’t see him not setting the new record, with (hopefully) many more years of adding to it ahead of him.
