Did Chip Kelly do something unconventional, etc.? Yes. According to the man himself, the Eagles don’t always get the best replay views on the road, specifically in two stadiums, and Coach Kelly though the Eagles could use some extra eyes on replays after last year. In the 2013 season, Kelly and the Eagles batted .500 on coaches challenges (3 won, 3 lost), and obviously Kelly wants to bring that number up. But where are those stadiums where the replays aren’t the best?

Instinct tells me the Patriots, with their close relationship to tape, would not give opposing teams the best views on the road, but Chip Kelly’s Eagles didn’t play in Foxborough last year. With the rivals mindset, it’s gotta be some combo of Washington/New York/Dallas, and specifically the ‘Skins and the ‘Boys, since I can imagine Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder both making it their personal goal to ensure all the replays seen by opponents are terrible. But if it’s an issue of camera angles, you have to look at some of the older (or worst) stadiums in the league, and the Eagles played on the road in both Oakland and Green Bay last year. Maybe they should just set up an HDTV with a cable hookup on the sideline.

Two of Chip’s three lost challenges last year came at home, however, so maybe that extra set of eyes will be helpful.

UPDATE: According to Matt Lombardo, who really covered all the bases here, it is against NFL rules to have a portable TV (though, if they hardwire one in there isn’t that a loophole?), and Kelly said “it’s happened in two cities specifically this year” that he wanted to throw the challenge flag but didn’t get the replays he needed. Assuming he actually means this year, that narrows it down to the only two road games the Birds have played, the pre-season games against the Bears and Patriots. I KNEW IT.
