After the Eagles played in Houston last week and lost DeMeco Ryans (and the Texans lost Arian Foster) to injury, questions were raised post-game about the quality of the playing surface. The Eagles, like many teams before them, complained of seams in the surface, its varying degrees of hardness, and called the field “dangerous” (and in Shady’s case, “the worst field I ever played on”). It all boils down to the grass, which is grown outside the stadium and then carted in and laid down in squares, like a basketball court. The Texans supposedly don’t have any issues with the way the field is assembled, and the league has given a soft “we’ll look into it.” But someone noticed the Eagles comments: The dude who is suing over the playing surface at NRG Stadium.

Former Texans punter (and former punter altogether) Brett Hartmann is currently suing SMG, the company that manages the field at NRG Stadium, because he blames the “unsafe turf” for a career-ending knee injury. Hartmann’s attorney has now amended his lawsuit to include “quotes from Eagles players … and head coach Bill O’Brien, who said he’ll consider whether to make changes himself after this season.” I don’t know how this will play out, but if there’s an option to see Bill O’Brien rip up the field surface with his bare hands at the end of the year, I’ll take that one.
