Apparently that is a thing he does.

Furkan Aldemir, a 6’10” power forward not named Dario Saric, was originally acquired by the Sixers in the Hinkiest of ways: “Aldemir was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers with the 53rd pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and then had his rights shipped immediately to the Houston Rockets … The Sixers obtained his rights in the deal that brought Royce White to PCOM for a few weeks in exchange for a Top-55 protected pick that the Rockets will never see.” Aldemir signed a new three-year contract in May with Galatasaray Istanbul, in Turkey, but it looks like that may be null and void since the dude hasn’t been paid in five months.

According to Euro Hoops, Aldemir has decided to terminate his contract with Galatasaray due to the lack of payment. Euro Hoops continues, saying Aldemir “is expected to cross the Atlantic and continue his career in the NBA with the Sixers who own his NBA rights.”

Aldemir is, according to the Sixers, “one of the best rebounders in all of international basketball,” and he’s averaging 8.5 points (on 65.3% shooting) and 9.6 rebounds in 23.6 minutes per game. Will his play improve the team by much? Can he even make it worse? We don’t know. But just be warned if someone says “Furkan Aldemir,” they aren’t having a stroke, they’re just talking basketball. Sixers basketball.
