Close your eyes for a second and imagine the outrage if Chip Kelly said something like this: “Ertz is what you look for in an Eagle. You talk about what you want your players to look like, act like.”* Insane, right? Some coaches can get away with that though:

mccarthy

Over on Twitter, Curt Schilling called all Muslims terrorists and Nazis, or something:

Schill being Schill

Schill being Schill

Really, I’m not even sure what Schilling is trying to say here in the now-deleted tweet. Is he saying all Muslims are radical? Not sure. Is he saying there weren’t as many Nazis as people say? Maybe. Is he saying he shouldn’t have access to Twitter? Probably.

And then, this:

nazi schilling

So, battle flag guy is the good guy here? I think? It’s way too early in the week for this.

And the Phillies being terrible this year isn’t only hurting your soul, but it’s hurting scalpers and t-shirt sellers outside of Citizens Bank Park. According to Billy Penn, one re-seller said it’s worse than any year since the early 70s. And the fans coming to games aren’t even buying the bootleg Phillies gear, it’s bootleg miscellaneous gear. “Vendors on Monday night were selling football-related gear, with nods to Tebow and anti-Dallas messages,” Mark Dent reported. “[One shirt seller] says his top-selling shirt this year has been one with Rocky on it.”

Attendance was already down last season (an average of 29,924 per game vs. 37,190 in 2013), and it’s only gotten worse this year. After the same number of home games last season, the Phils averaged 30,161 fans per game. This year, they are pulling in 24,626. That drop off of 5,535 is the worst in baseball. Over the last two seasons, those scalpers and merchandisers have lost an average of 12,564 potential customers per game. That’s insane. Go back just one more season and that number jumps up to 19,395. Even if one out of every thousand fans bought a shirt (and each seller only made $3 per purchase, which I really doubt) that’s a difference of $4,771 per season.

So the next time you’re down at CBP, maybe drop that five in your pocket on a t-shirt, these dudes are hurting. Plus, you can get a nice new Tebow tee.

*Chip said basically this exact thing about Celek last year, but that was before the racism talk went into overdrive.
