Back in May, the Miami Marlins fired manager Mike Redmond and the team’s GM replaced him with … himself. Former GM Dan Jennings (the role is currently officially occupied by former assistant GM Mike Berger) became the team’s interim manager and has since lead the team to a record of 34-49. Not great. So rumor has it that next season, the Marlins are going to ask Jennings to go back to his old gig, as they try to find their next manager. According to Jon Heyman, he could come from the Phillies dugout.

Heyman says the Marlins’ top target is Don Mattingly, but other names that will be brought up will include “Dusty Baker, Bud Black, Ron Gardenhire, Bobby Valentine, Willie Randolph, Larry Bowa, Jerry Manuel, Jim Riggleman, Rick Renteria and many, many others.” Bowa’s name was also brought up my MLB.com.

But there’s another issue at play here: If Jennings steps back into his GM role, what happens with Berger? Jennings and owner Jeffrey Loria’s relationship has been said to be “strained,” and he’s known Berger for “decades.” It’s possible he sees fewer duties and responsibilities should he return to his GM role. It’s going to be very crowded in that office, and all of this suddenly has a very Redskins-light feel to it.
