First, let’s let Bernard English – great name, by the way – say how he feels:

Okay. I would like to congratulate Bernard on his emotion. 10/10, would watch a game with. Now since that’s out of the way, I want to break this down. Are the Eagles like Muhammad Ali? Well, no. First, Ali was never knocked out, and he was only knocked to the mat four times in his entire career. That’s insane. He was one of the greatest of all time. This Eagles team is far from Ali, and they’ve already been knocked out a few times this season. Still, I appreciate the emotion.

Now, the better part: Jiminy Cricket. Did Jiminy Cricket get back up after he was knocked down? Well, the only way to answer that question is with another question: What? In the Pinocchio movie, I don’t remember him being knocked out AT ALL. Am I wrong? Maybe, maybe not. But I dug a little deeper. In the original Pinocchio tale the 1940 film is based off of, Jiminy does get knocked down, kinda:

Jiminy is based off the Talking Cricket from the original Pinocchio book that Walt Disney’s film is based on. In the book, the cricket tries to lecture Pinocchio about his bad behavior, only to be flattened with a hammer for his efforts, and then come back as an equally preachy ghost. However in the film, the cricket is named Jiminy and instead of being a cameo character, he was made into a major character and joins Pinocchio on his journey to becoming a real boy.

There you have it. The Eagles got back up, just like Jiminy Cricket, who was murdered by a hammer and then came back as a kind of annoying ghost. That’s our Eagles. Once dead, but now back in ghost form to annoy people. I’m being sarcastic, but that might be the best comparison this team has.

Well done, Bernard, invoking pre-Disney Jiminy Cricket in your Eagles rallying cry.
