Poor David Wright– rough month for him:

Wait, no, worse.

According to Hawaii News Now, former Met (and current Colorado Rockie) Jose Reyes was arrested on Halloween in Hawaii for allegedly assaulting his wife. HNN reports that Reyes’ wife, Katherine, told police that “Reyes grabbed her off the bed and shoved her … [he also allegedly] grabbed her throat and shoved her into the sliding glass balcony door.”

Domestic violence among athletes and how they are punished for it might as well be the subtext for 2014 and 2015. But that’s really only the NFL. Since the Ray Rice case broke the public consciousness, a handful of cases here and there have caught the public’s eye, all in the NFL. In response to all of that stuff and how poorly the NFL handled it, Major League Baseball created a Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. This will be their first real chance to test it out.

The MLB’s abuse policy – which the MLBPA agreed to – allows the league to “suspend players with pay when legal charges are pending in ‘exceptional cases,'” and if suspensions are handed down and upheld through arbitration, they are unpaid and have no maximum or minimum limits.

This seems to be far from a Greg Hardy situation (and it helps the MLB that this happened in the off-season) but it’ll be very interesting to see how this is handled.

The Rockies released a statement and, unlike the Cowboys, they didn’t call Reyes a great leader:

“We were extremely disappointed and concerned to learn of the allegations involving Jose Reyes. We continue to gather information and will address this matter appropriately, in accordance with Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse policy.”

Well would you look at that– a sane and reasoned response.
