The noises emanating from the bowels of Lincoln Financial Field are not good. First, Bucs comments about knowing which plays were coming, and Malcolm Jenkins being about as lukewarm on his teammates and coaches as one can possibly get. And now, an anonymous Eagle who spoke to Jeff McLane on the always-worrisome condition of anonymity, the interview parameter that seemed to be ever-present during the final years of the Andy Reid era:

[Against the Dolphins last week,] it was third and 1, and DeMarco Murray got the handoff. He turned the corner and appeared to have the first down. But rather than finish off his run, he saw 185-pound cornerback Brice McCain coming at him, and he slid to the ground just barely beyond the first-down marker.

Millions watched it on TV and thousands saw it in person at Lincoln Financial Field, but the people it should matter to most were Murray’s teammates. And at least one, when asked on Sunday whether he thought the Eagles were giving it their all, noticed.

“Well, when you see DeMarco sliding before getting hit, you tell me. Was that giving full effort?” said an Eagles player who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “You see that [stuff], and it makes you wonder.”

Thud.

With those words, me thinks the DeMarco Murray era in Philadelphia is destined to go where so many high-priced free agent eras have gone before. Think Chris Gratton, think Freddy Garcia, think Elton Brand.

This is just the latest in a series of damning comments, quotes and stories surrounding the Eagles in the last 10 days or so:

  • Darren Sproles complaining about his carries
  • The circumstances surrounding Jason Peters not starting last week
  • Mark Sanchez and Sproles beefing on the field
  • More allegations by opponents about knowing which plays were coming
  • And even the long-tenured long snapper having his job placed on the proverbial line

All little things. Expected things, even. But the sort of things that crop up in bunches when things turn sour. And right now, Eagles press clippings have the distinct whiff of a bag of Crybabies.
