OK maybe that’s over the top a bit.

But Bryan Colangelo, who presumably has pressed collars on his pajamas, called into 97.5 this morning and explained that you can’t believe every rumor you hear:

“We wanted to obtain another pick, I think that would’ve been a great thing for us. But the right deal didn’t present itself. So we felt like we needed a mode of patience and to do the right thing. There were some very interesting and significant transactions that could’ve happened, but once again when you put all the notes down, pros, cons, positives, negatives, it didn’t make any sense for us to do some of these things. That’s not to say we can’t revisit a few of the conversations. We had a couple of players available to us for some of those picks, I think some of those players may be available to us later as teams try to jockey for position with their salary cap and other things. Free agency’s on the horizon, there’s still several weeks here where trades are going to be relevant. But I do want to make it known that some of the things that were floating out there as far as some of the deals we were supposedly offering, it just simply wasn’t the case. There were a lot of situations that sometimes teams get a little aggressive with the media, they like to put things out there, perhaps even to spur on other reactions from other teams…”

Like this?

Meanwhile, many of the leaks, specifically regarding Houston, seemed to give the Sixers leverage. And given the amount of league source stories suddenly prevalent since the Colangelos took over, Bryan certainly doesn’t seem to be above it himself.

But still, I’m with him. I don’t get the negativity that they didn’t make a trade. They’re two years away from contention, at least. They don’t need a point guard at the moment. As long as they’re no longer actively trying to lose and retard the growth of their players, I’m fine. You should be, too. Colangelo could’ve panicked his way into turning the Sixers into a perennial 8 seed (especially by trading Noel and or Okafor to Houston for Patrick Beverely and Trevor Ariza). He held his ground, made Danny Ainge out to be the idiot, and came out of the draft with a superstar and two solid prospects. Nothing not to like.

Other thing: Colangelo said there are still some financial considerations regarding Dario Saric, and, while optimistic, he seemed to be telling the truth that him coming over isn’t a foregone conclusion yet.
