On First Take today, Stephen A. Smith hit his absolute peak. Smith, who started as a sportswriter before becoming a professional TV idiot, has no background in the law. In fact, when he’s dabbled into it, he’s fallen completely flat on his damned face. But that didn’t stop him from saying, while talking about the excellent OJ: Made in America documentary, what he described as the “cockiest thing” he’s ever said:

In case you don’t wanna hear his voice:

“I’ve often been on the record saying anybody can call me what they wanna call me. I have profound respect for the late Johnnie Cochran, God rest his soul. It might be the cockiest thing that I’ve ever said. Christopher Darden and Marcia Clark did an absolutely horrendous job as prosecutors. If it were me, there’s no way in hell Johnnie Cochran would have beaten me with that evidence that they had. I’m telling you right now, I’m not even a lawyer, there is no way.”

And now, an excerpt from the transcript of the trial in the alternate universe where Stephen A. Smith prosecuted O.J. Simpson:

“Now YOUR HONOR. This is… now I respect the court. I have always respected the court. And I am obviously against racism and the allegations of the racism of the LAPD put forth by the prosecution are HORRIBLE. I don’t know the LAPD, I don’t WANT to know the LAPD. But for this ACCUSATION to allow O.J. SIMPSON to get AWAY with MURDER. That’s just PREPOSTEROUS. Bloody gloves and cartels and things of that nature.”

Guilty?
