The phrase “Trust the Process” – born in the fires of the Rights to Ricky Sanchez podcast – has become a catch-all phrase for Sixers fans. Before the draft, Ben Simmons captioned an Instagram video with it, and then changed it. Afterwards he used it again. It’s been used and modified in countless headlines. Earlier this week, Dion Waiters used it as an Instagram caption, but according to a report that’s just something he’s bound to do.

A source told Keith Pompey that it “doesn’t have anything to do with the Sixers, [and it’s] a mantra that he and his trainer have made for a while. When things weren’t doing well at Syracuse, they would say ‘trust the process.’ Whenever he goes through a tough time, he says ‘trust the process.’ Right now, he’s trusting the process of free agency.”

A separate source (this one Sixers, that one Waiters) said “some within the franchise don’t want to add Waiters” just in case Jahlil Okafor isn’t done punching people yet. The team is reportedly worried about the hometown boy
“being a good fit and possible off-the-court incidents.” Though some in the franchise are on board. A concern, according to Pompey, is his “sometimes-blunt” personality. Calling Waiters “sometimes blunt” is like saying Dennis Rodman “sometimes favors attention.” Dude is just bull-headed.

Waiters is still young and the concerns about off-the-court issues are probably blown out of proportion. But if that’s a concern the team has, it doesn’t look good for Dion in red, white, and blue.
