I don’t hate it!

How do you think the conversation went between Howie Roseman and 49ers assistant general manager Tom Gamble, who was sqoze out in a power struggle between Roseman and Chip Kelly in Philly, when Roseman called to inquire about Smith?

Sup, Tom?

Fuck yourself.

Water under the bridge, my man.

Eat dick.

We’re interested in Torrey Smith, who has four receptions over the last three weeks, is making $7.6 million this season, and has a cap hit of $9.6 million next season!

Howie– shalom! How’s everything going over there– I trust Doug is treating you well? Chip is kind of a disaster, but I’ve hitched my boat to this buoy so… – sobbing – please help.

From Pro Football Talk:

The Eagles and 49ers are discussing a trade involving wide receiver Torrey Smith, multiple sources told PFT.

No deal is imminent, but the Eagles potentially acquiring Smith makes sense. He’s been disappointing while playing on bad offenses in two seasons with the 49ers, and the Eagles would love to bolster their receiving corps for a run at the NFC East title.

The trade deadline is next Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Smith’s numbers have fallen off a cliff since he left Baltimore and signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the 49ers. They’ve gotten worse this year– he only once has double-digit targets (he only caught three) and hasn’t had more than three catches in any game:

But with Baltimore he was quite good.

What’s the problem? For one, the 49ers. For number dew-a, a good portion of his contract is guaranteed, so he’s had very little incentive to work on his game these last two years. As long as he was on the roster on April 1, he was getting paid this season, and the same applies to next season. Of course, his salary will bump up to $6.5 million, from $4.5 million, and, at 27, he might have a little more incentive to finish strong this season and guarantee himself another year.

In the preseason he complained about his targets from Colin Kaepernick, but his numbers are actually better with Kaepernick than Blaine Gabbet. So Smith seems like a good player in a bad spot who obviously has the talent to be a decent receiver in the league. And given the fact that the 49ers stink and the Eagles wide receivers also stink, it makes sense that the two teams are talking. Smith would be an immediate upgrade over Nelson Agholor, at the very least. I’d do it.
