Hassan Whiteside is mad. Maybe it’s because he thought his Heat team would be good (they have a worse record than the Sixers). Perhaps it’s because he wanted to be an All-Star this year. And perhaps it’s because Joel Embiid stands in his way:

“It’s more so a gimmick. I look at guys and they just do stuff to win the fans over, make jokes on Twitter to get people to vote for them. It ain’t got nothing to do really with talent.”

Nothing to do with talent? Nothing? Ok Hassan, if you don’t think Twitter votes should count because it’s a flimsy popularity contest, maybe let’s look at stats. You’d agree that works, right?

Joel Embiid has a better PER, assist %, true shooting %, steal %, block %, box plus-minus, and – my favorite one to say – VORP. Whiteside of course leads in rebounding categories but not much else. Or let’s look at the per-36 numbers:

You see, Hassan, you’ve been playing basketball at a professional level for as long as Joel Embiid’s been playing basketball period, and he’s still better than you. And if you’re so concerned about All-Star votes being because people are funny online, maybe try finding yourself a sense of humor.

UPDATE: Whiteside disagrees, with something:

UPDATE 2: Whiteside is backing up a bit, but Embiid is keeping tabs:
