The NBC-ization of CSN Philly is almost complete. Just a few peacocks here, a sprinkle of The Voice tie-ins there, and something something Lester Holt, and the transition will be complete.

According to Sports Business Daily, the two CSN networks in California, CSN Bay Area and CSN California, will be rebranded to, you guessed it:

NBC Sports Group will rename its two California-based RSNs to NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California – stripping away the CSN moniker. There is no word on whether similar changes will occur with NBC’s other RSNs – Chicago, New England, Philadelphia, Northwest and Mid-Atlantic. But it seems likely that those CSN-branded networks will be renamed with the NBC brand, as well – though the official comment from NBC is that it is exploring other changes, “given the unique partnerships with team partners across the RSN markets.”

CSN Philly has always been treated a little differently than its peers, 1) because it was the first, and 2) because COMCAST LIVES HERE or some shit. But lately the synergies have been more apparent. There are peacocks everywhere, the look and feel of Philly Sport Talk reeks of NBC (minus the Merrill Reese-voiced intro that sounds like a Transformers commercial), and, like most other cities, their website hate-fucks you in the face upon visiting.

The NBC partnership isn’t all ripe for snark, though– the recent multi-platform TOMBOY documentary leveraged the resources of BIG NBC and its little regional networks to put out a unique #content experience. And you know it’s important because it gets its own menu dropdown on the website.

But anyway, yeah, it’s not written in stone, but look for NBC Sports Philly brought to you by [insert local car dealer] to come to a cable box near you soon.
