Jeffrey Lurie spoke to the gathered media at the owners’ meetings yesterday, and confirmed what we all presumed: The proposed rule change for a second helmet proposed by the Eagles was to bring back Kelly Green.

Lurie also hinted he’s open to a full-time switch back to the kelly green color scheme:

“I want to see us use Kelly green as our alternate and Thursday night-type of uniform. The only thing blocking us is we can’t get the Kelly green helmet yet. That’s what we’re waiting for. We’re going to keep pushing at it. … My hope is that we’ll be able to get it done by next March.

We’re going to keep at it because we’re really determined. … I would love to see it the sooner the better…

First, I want to try it as an alternate, try to have it for two or three games, see if people like it. That was the goal to try to make that happen. I’m really confident we’ll be able to, but when is that?

I love the midnight green. I think it’s great, but I also want the Kelly green.”

The Eagles have been wearing Midnight green Since 1996, and one color scheme/uniform for 20 years is an eternity if you’re not the Packers or Colts.

Kyle: My opinion is that Lurie is married to the Midnight Green, or that he was married to it and then got divorced from it but kept it a part of the organization. Whatever. It is their identity with the team. Of course everyone is gonna love it when they go to Kelly Green. Jeff knows this. He just doesn’t have a gentle way of saying I LOVE MIDNIGHT GREEN AND IT’S MY COLOR DAMMIT YOU’RE NEVER GETTING YOUR KELLY.
