Jeff Blumenthal, writing for the Philly Business Journal about all the media that’s coming to Philly next week:

Seth Markman has worked more than 15 NFL Draft days during his time with ESPN, where he has served as lead producer for the network’s NFL Draft coverage for seven years. But the 2017 Draft is the first to be held completely outdoors, which could present issues for the 1,800 media members the NFL says will be situated in tented areas on the Rocky Steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art — currently in the process of being transformed into the NFL Draft Theatre.

ESPN will not have any location shoots for the team covering the Draft but several of the network’s talk shows such as Mike & Mike, First Take and Outside the Lines will broadcast from Chickie’s and Pete’s in South Philadelphia. While not the best way to show off the city, Markman said those chat fests are looking for an audience behind them and get that, along with plenty of crab fries, at the sports bar.

Besides the main set location on the Rocky Steps, the NFL Network will have sets at the Franklin Institute (where the NFL is housing each’s team’s table) and the rooftop of the Logan Hotel (where reporter Ian Rapoport will report starting next Monday).

NFL Network will broadcast several live elements from Philadelphia on the three days preceding the draft for weekday programs, Up to the Minute, Path to the Draft and NFL Total Access.

1,800 media members… and yet, the largest independent website in Philly doesn’t quite have a large enough audience to clear that low bar. I look forward to reading draft coverage from the Sioux City Press, with its circulation of 4.5 (cows count as half a person).

Translation: You don’t cover the NFL the way we want you to cover the NFL.

If you need me, I’ll be sucking off a rat in a nearby sewer, searching, however imprudently, for the real story. #StreetCred
