This is the most intriguing one.

Who is he?

De’Aaron Fox is another Kentucky freshman. He’s a lightning quick 6’4 pure point guard with next-level athleticism and a very inconsistent shot.

What to like

When his NBA comp is John Wall, that makes me hard. Fox is super quick. Crazy quick. Watch-his-highlights-and-change-your-pants quick. He is the fastest player on the floor – any floor – and has insane driving ability. He can finish in tough spots and go above the rim when needed. He can make defenders look foolish and he has a MOTOR, twice besting fellow top pick Lonzo Ball this season. He may have the most upside of anyone in the draft and can be an All-Star guard. He’s been compared to Mike Conley, who also came out of college as a poor three-point shooter but is now one of the best in the game. Fox is not a great defender, but he’s plenty quick, competitive, and can get into passing lanes, particularly from the weak side, to create his own fast breaks. He’s really good and excites me.

What not to like

He’s not a consistent shooter. While his shot isn’t as ugly as some scouting reports would have you believe, it’s very inconsistent and not ready for the NBA. That said, he’s a better pull-up shooter than spot-up shooter, and BBALLBREAKDOWN thinks he can easily improve both without a complete overhaul. He’s left-handed and heavily favors going in that direction and finishing with his left, even when he shouldn’t. There are concerns that he’ll get swatted, a lot, in the NBA until he develops the ability to finish with both hands, a useful skill I discovered while watching his YouTube highlights. He’s a decent distributor, but not a great passer like Ben Simmons. He can be a little erratic at times.

Would he fit the Sixers?

Yes and no. The Sixers need a guard, but ideally one who can shoot. But, Fox is a next-level athlete and a potential superstar. He’s that quick and skilled. He’s also hyper competitive. There is a way to make him work on the Sixers, but they’d definitely need to acquire a shooter. One thing: Ben Simmons is both left and right handed in a way that is weird, and you wonder if Fox would sort of clash with him since he’s so dominant with his left. But in college, Simmons usually finished with his right. So it doesn’t seem like there would be an issue here.

Why would the Sixers draft him?

He could be a superstar if he develops a shot, which some experts think he’ll be able to do. He will be the best guard available for a team that needs a guard. There’s not much else to say.

Why wouldn’t the Sixers draft him?

Because he can’t shoot. That’s really the only reason. He’s a superstar type player who lacks polish. But that could come with time.
