Hey, remember a month ago when online trolls pooped all over me for my #clickbait article about the Sixers being players for LeBron next season? Well, not so crazy now, am I?

First, Derek Bodner wrote an entire column about the possibility of the Sixers being in on Kyrie or LeBron (not both!), concluding that “the whispers [about LeBron] will be even more persistent, and have even more legitimacy behind them” (the rest is behind his paywall), and now Bleacher Report ranks them as the number one free agent destination. Behold, the Sixers:

Is premium flexibility, a possible Big Three-in training and plenty of other assets enough for the Sixers to woo anyone they please, up to and including LeBron James? Simmons’ choice of emoji on Twitter suggests he thinks so. And you know what: He’s not wrong.

Maybe James doesn’t bite. He probably won’t. But someone else probably will—if not next summer, then soon. Very, very soon.

So, to recap, the Sixers are on the come-up, in a watered down conference, just as the greatest player in the world is coming up on free agency, with three of the best players from the last four drafts, and they have just about the most cap space in the league. And they also play in a major market, with a brand new practice facility, and have business tentacles that stretch far beyond the court which could provide opportunities for super-rich mega millionaires to invest their time and money. Oh, yeah, it’s on.
