It's every little boy's dream to be drafted by their hometown team.  The Phillies entered Monday's MLB Draft with the 27th selection overall, and drafted left-handed pitcher Jesse Biddle of Germantown Friends School.  The 6'5 southpaw went 9-2 on the season with a 1.06 ERA.  Perhaps the most impressive stat on Biddle this season is his strikeout numbers.  In 59.1 innings, he struck out 140 batters, while walking just 29 (15.5 K/9).

The Phillies have had their eye on Biddle for quite some time.  "We saw him here throw on Wednesday.  He was up to 94, a very easy 94, and I think there's still some more there yet" said Phillies Director of Scouting Marti Wolever.  "He was even better than we had seen during the course of the year.  We just felt that at this time, he was the best high school left hander on our board" Wolever added.  During the Press Conference, Biddle was compared to Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw.  This should come as music to Phillies fans ears!

In the fall, Biddle had planned on attending the University of Oregon.  Only time will tell lif he ends up signing, but it's definately a pick Phils fans should be excited about!
