Had the Nationals beat the Braves in the afternoon, the Phillies game would have been a raucous, towel-waving event, as a win would have clinched the NL East for the fourth year in a row.

Instead, the Braves won 5-0.  Clinch would have to wait.

Still, the Phillies could have reduced their magic number to one with a win.  Ryan Howard got things started off on the right foot as he blasted one of the furthest balls I have ever seen hit, in the first inning to give the Phils a 2-0 lead.

The score remained that way until the 7th inning, when a couple of fielding gaffs got Kyle Kendrick in trouble.  He was pulled having thrown only 72 pitches.  Chad Durbin promptly came into the game and blew the lead.  It was 5-2 before the Phillies came to bat in the bottom of the 7th.

The Phils would go on to lose the game by the same score.

The new iPhone app didn't fare much better.  I tried out it out by ordering a sandwich, two beers, and two bottles of water at 8:05.  After receiving my confirmation, I patiently waited, assuming my food would be there in the estimated 30 minute window.

8:35, no food.

8:45, no food.

Finally, at 8:48 I checked my order status and learned that the order never went through because my credit card couldn't be processed (there's plenty of available funds, if that's what you're thinking).  I must have entered a wrong number or the phone couldn't hold a signal long enough to process my request.  Here's the problem: I got a "confirmation" page telling me my order was received, with no mention that it didn't go through.  Not the best user experience.  It also took me about seven minutes to figure out how to reduce the quantity of an item.

If you use the app, make sure you check your order status to make sure it actually went through.  Or else you'll be tweeting like an asshole, saying that your food is late.

Meanwhile, the Mets aren't very good at this winning thing.  Hisanori Takahasi was caught a little off-guard in the post-game handshake line.  Japanese guys don't know how to chest bump…

Video after the jump.

Thanks to our friends at Philly Phaithful for the heads up.
