NBC News has asserted itself as the dominant media outlet in the Penn State scandal. Somewhere, Tom Brokaw approves through a throaty drone.

Last night, on Rock Central (which, as you may already know, airs Monday nights at 10PM), Bob Costas interviewed Jerry Sandusky and his lawyer, Joe Amendola (more on that fuck-stain guy in a second). Now NBC has obtained an email Mike McQueary sent to his friends. In it, the then graduate assistant who allegedly walked in on Sandusky raping a little boy says he did stop the incident: [MSNBC]

"I did the right thing…you guys know me…the truth is not out there fully…I didn't just turn and run…I made sure it stopped…I had to make quick tough decisions."

Given the myriad accusations and evidence against Sandusky, it’s fair to say that we’ve all felt safe to hop on our jump to conclusions mat in other areas of the case. Perhaps we should take McQueary at his word– for now.

Of course, Sandusky’s lawyer told Costas that the boy McQueary saw in the showers with Sandusky may come forward and say that he wasn’t raped. That would mean somebody is lying. I’m going to bet on that person being the lawyer… Why, you ask? Well, he hasn't earned himself much credibility thus far. The Daily, the iPad magazine, reports that Amendola – the lawyer of an alleged serial rapist – impregnated a 17-year-old client in 1996: [The Daily]

According to documents filed with Centre County Courthouse, Amendola served as the attorney for Mary Iavasile’s emancipation petition on Sept. 3, 1996, just weeks before her 17th birthday.

The emancipation request said Mary graduated from high school in two years with a 3.69 grade point average and maintained a full-time job — but makes no mention of any special relationship between her and her lawyer.

Roughly around the same time, however, Iavasile became pregnant with Amendola’s child, and gave birth before she turned 18, her mother, Janet Iavasile, alleged in an interview with The Daily.

Score one for tablet-only publications.

Amendola and Mary later got married, though they are now separated. Mary watched last night’s interview:

But when Joe Amendola said in a televised interview last night that he would let Sandusky supervise his children, Mary [now Amendola] instantly posted on her Facebook, "OMG did Joe just say that he would allow my kids to be alone with Jerry Sandusky?"

Yeah, Sandusky’s lawyer had sex with a 17-year-old… when he was 49.

Finally, in less important but somewhat hilarious news, Graham Spanier, the worst university president in the history of the world, is also, apparently, a dating expert. He fully endorses PerfectMatch.com:

Heh. It gets weirder: Spanier developed a test for couples in relationships called the Spanier Dyadic Adjustment Scale (developed in 1976, published in 1989):

The DAS scale is a self-report measure of relationship adjustment. Extensive research, including over 1,000 published studies, supports the use of the DAS in determining the degree of dissatisfaction couples are experiencing. By measuring both partners’ perceptions, you can see where the ratings are different and ultimately gain a clearer picture of where the problems are rooted.

The characters in this play just keep getting weirder and weirder and weirder…
