You probably know how disproportionally excited I get when dumb athletes use the interwebtuals, society’s great equalizer. But, some, like former Phillies reliever and World Fucking Champion Chad Durbin, have matter between the ears and use the web for the right reasons, properly.

They do things like start brand-growing webpages, Tweet effectively (Pence, Hunter), and use their Internet connection as platform to grow awareness for their charities and or other interests.

Last night, we found a new entry into the +column… but it makes me all sorts of frowny:

He’s almost… one of us, creating a LinkedIn page with the slightest of enhancements to a current position – non-roster invitee at Washington Nationals – which isn't exactly worth bragging about.

It serves to remind us that not all athletes are set-for-life millionaires. Most of them, especially middle relievers, have 3-5 years to earn money that needs to last a long time… unless, like Chad, they have some other aspirations.

Durbin details one position currently held that we already knew about: Co-Founder of ShowcaseU.com, a company that helps young athletes promote themselves to colleges and scouts– actually a pretty good idea.

Still, though, despite the obvious (and smart) social media move by Durbin, seeing a key piece of the 2008 WFC assimilate back into society will make me sadyou know, after he stops in Washington, where baseball careers go to die.
