Make me a bicycle, clown!

Or let me shoot pucks at you.

The Flyers are going to blast pucks at Mike Richter tomorrow. No, not that Mike Richter. This one:

via a Flyers press release, which had a distinct Adam Aron-P.T. Barnum feel. Literally…

DETAILS:       Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown Mike Richter, in an effort to show “courage,” will don goalie equipment and get in goal and face shots from Philadelphia Flyers players Marc-Andre Bourdon, Zac Rinaldo and Tom Sestito following practice. Richter has the same name of the former New York Rangers goalie from Flourtown, PA.

“Courage” is one of the true signs of the Dragon which is part of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presents DRAGONS, appearing at Wells Fargo Center from Wednesday, February 22 through Sunday, February 27. Tickets for The Greatest Show on Earth are available exclusively through ComcastTIX on line at ComcastTIX.com, by phone by calling 1-800-298-4200 or in person at the Wells Fargo Center Box Office.

There, I gave them their tickets plug, too.

Performing stunts well outside of one’s field certainly is a courageous act for Richter, though I’d argue that stopping pucks shot by Marc-Andre Bourdon, Zac Rinaldo and Tom Sestito is hardly a risky endeavor. For full effect, Richter may want to position himself about three-feet wide of the net.

I like this, though. But I will admit that I was somewhat disappointed when I realized that my Freudian instinct incorrectly read the release’s title as Flyers players shoot pucks on circus clown Mike Richards after practice. That would have been something.

Of course, reader Bryan had a much different reaction to the whole clown thing:

Ouch.

Now, if only the Reading Phillies had a hand in this— they would figure out a way to incorporate bb guns and trampolines.
