Stop me if any of this sounds weird: Roy Halladay got thwacked by the Washington Nationals last night and hopped on the national radio-circuit to promote a boating company this morning.

How Hunter Pence of him.

Doc, who is usually not known for being too eager to do one-off interviews, especially following one of the worst outings you will see from him, was on ESPN Radio and Sirius this morning to promote DiscoverBoating.com. Which is exactly the type of company we would expect Doc to lend his valuable time to.

Some highlights from his radio interviews:

Following a question, which was chopped off the audio, about possibly being traded:

“I want to finish my career in Philadelphia, that’s really all I’m focused on at this point. I enjoy my teammates, I enjoy Philadelphia. This is where I want to be. I really have no desire to go and play for other teams for a month.”

Who would you rather have back, Chase Utley or Ryan Howard?

“There’s something about Chase. When he’s around, guys don’t screw up.  They’re afraid to screw up. We’d take either one of them.”

“Chase Utley is like having a manager on the field. That’s hard to look past.”

Player you hate facing?

“Right now, and I think I’m almost off the hook here, but Chipper Jones. He’s been a thorn. But I think we only have to face him here a couple more months.”

On getting hit around by Bryce Harper:

“It was a substantial mistake [I made to Harper]. It was belt-high, up, away. That’s not ideal. He made me pay for it. I’m looking forward to going after him again.”

On Hamels facing the Nationals tonight:

“I think what’s done is done. I would think that it’s going to be moved past. I don’t know what their guys are thinking on their side. I know both sides have kind of been penalized a little bit for it.”

On intentionally hitting batters:

“You know, I think in certain circumstances it… there’s a point where you need to stand up for your teammates, or whatver the circumstances may be. I think any time you’re wondering was that on purpose, is probably not the right time to do it. I think it’s part of the game. There are certain times where I feel it needs to be done. There are other times I feel like we’re getting a little bit caught up int he moment.”

Back to his endorsement for a second. From DiscoverBoating.com’s May marketing highlights:

Some of Roy's answers from a promotional Q & A on the site. He was afraid of lake sharks.

“At the time, it wasn’t a favorite memory. But I was younger. I was scared of the big lakes. I thought there were sharks out there and who knows what. And [my Dad] was trying to get me to learn how ski. I wouldn’t get near the water, so finally he threw me over the edge and that was the end. And after that, you couldn’t get me out.”

Sadly, no mention of saving naked men from anacondas.

Of course, this post wouldn’t be complete without Roy’s favorite boating music:

“My favorite musician, by far, on the water would be Kenny Chesney.  One of his songs is actually called ‘Boats’ and talks about how a boat is a vessel for freedom and a harbor or healing – it’s a cool song.”

And no, Discover Boating is not paying me. It's just a slow day.
