Ruben Amaro, who is often sensitive enough to surprise local radio shows with a call (still waiting for my unsolicited e-mail…), dialed up Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team today. This exchange kicked things off:

Rube: “Was I nominated for “Weasel of the Week” again?!”

Angelo: “Yes, but you did not win. Ricky Bottalico said you’re doing a fine job.”

Rube: “Clearly I’m doing a fine job. We stink right now.”

On Ryan Howard:

“His Achilles is doing great. His strength is not 100%, probably won’t be that until some time next year, really.”

Channeling Peter Griffin*, Rube talks about what percentage of a percentage Howard will be:

“He’s probably somewhere between, you know, 85-90% of what Ryan Howard is going to be. But if he can be, as he said himself, 100% of whatever that is, then, you know. We owe it to Ryan, we owe it to our club to get him going.”

On what the Phillies will do before the trade deadline:

“It’s trying to be as good as we can today, but also keeping an eye on tomorrow as well. We have to be reasonable, try to be intelligent about the decisions we make. If we go in the tank from here to July 31st and it doesn’t look like we have a snowball’s chance in hell to make the playoffs, then we have to think about what we’re doing to do as far as replenish and add to our system.”

Listen to the interview after the jump.

*And Joe, I’ve had new neighbors before, but none of them were half the man you are. Since you’re half a man already, that splits them into some kind of fraction I can’t even measure.
