Some afternoon bits of tid, for your reading enjoyment:

Steve Sabol, the President of NFL Films, died today at the age of 69 after losing a battle with brain cancer: [NFL.com]

Sabol took over the mantle of NFL Films President in 1985 from his father Ed, who founded the company. Steve learned in March of 2011 that he had a brain tumor that could not be removed. He introduced his father during Ed's emotional enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August of 2011. Sabol is survived by his wife, Penny, his son Casey, his parents Audrey and Ed, and his sister Blair.

Switching gears, sharply, we learned the reasoning behind the massive ‘stache Andy Reid is sporting. From Peter King, SI.com:

You've seen the thing. It's past Stadlerville and headed into Yosemite Sam territory. Reid always had a nicely kept 'stache, and now it looks like he's five months into his facial hair trimmer being held hostage.

Turns out there's a method to his hairness: Reid is growing the mustache as a tribute to high school offensive line coach Andy Cheschelski, who died of cancer earlier this year in Los Angeles. Reid played for two coaches, Cheschelski and his offensive coordinator, Danny Hime, who had flowing mustaches. When Cheschelski died this year, Reid told Hime he'd stop trimming the mustache to pay homage to a coach who he says taught him much about football and about life.

"Those guys have been watching over me since I was a kid, and I really appreciate all they've done for me in my life,'' Reid told me. "My wife doesn't even know why I'm doing this. I just thought it would be a good way to honor them.''

Mitt Romney’s secretly-taped fundraising speech that is currently dominating the news was held at the home of Marc Leder… who is one of the co-owners of the Sixers: [Philly.com]

Leder, a graduate of the Wharton School and a hedge find manager, is part of the investment group led by Joshua Harris that bought the Sixers last year.

So, that’s weird. If you’re interested even a little bit interested in politics, though, I’d highly recommend watching the full videos of Romney’s fundraising speech to the $50,000 per plate dinner crowd. It’s actually quite refreshing – allegiances aside – to hear a politician not dumbing it down to nonsense.

Speaking of nonsense: On their website, CSN is holding a Sweet 16 bracket for waitresses at P.J. Whelihan’s, one of their sponsors. And blogs get a bad rap for being page views hungry.

This guy is mad. Real mad. Joe Jackson.

"You see that? The Dallas Cowboys took a big shit on that today."

That must-see video, after the jump.
