This, I love.

I really didn’t care much when Spencer Hawes debuted his pseudo mullet this season. But this American flag headband-wristband super combo that he wore last night in Boston? Well, my country tis of thee, sweet land of fucking liberty! That’s beautiful. Really, it’s a beautiful combo. Hawes has just enough of a goofy white boy, slightly above average NBA center thing going on to pull off the mullet and headband, BAMF look with just the perfect amount of irony. It works and it works well.

No idea why Hawes (and Jrue Holiday, who had one on his wrist) were wearing the accessories. Hawes is a huge Republican and may very well be in mourning right now. This may have been his way of showing support for Mitt Romeny in Romney's backyard. Or maybe not.

I, for one, think the Sixers should do more of this– embrace the whole USA thing. After all, they are named after one of the most American things – perhaps the American thing – in, well, American history. There should be more flags, stars and stripes than what we usually see. Less confetti, more this.

UPDATE: Figured there had to be a reason behind this. Reader John notes that it's for the NBA's Hoops for Troops thing. Still, a good look for Hawes and he should keep it.
