Two somewhat surprising twists in the Eagles’ coaching search, which I would imagine is going to end with us being irrationally upset because they didn’t come away with Chip Kelly, Bill O’Brien or Jon Gruden.

There were reports that the Eagles were going to interview Jay Gruden, Jon’s younger brother, on Wednesday. But the team denied those reports. Instead, they will interview Lovie Smith, on Thursday.

In case you’re wondering (I was): the Eagles fulfilled their requirements for the Rooney Rule – which requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coaching vacancies – when they interviewed Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong.

UPDATE: Jay Gruden had the strange response of saying that he will talk with the Eagles, and Cardinals, but has every intention of returning to the Bengals. Uh, OK.
