Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 2.05.45 PMRoy Halladay will undergo surgery to have bone spur removed from his shoulder. He told reporters the rotator cuff kept rubbing over the spur, creating more of a tear and a frayed labrum. He hasn’t yet decided where or when he’ll get the surgery, but he said that if doctors find what an MRI revealed, he can come back this season. He said the surgery should help him with his arm slot and command, and that it could “turn back the clock three years” for him.

There’s no timetable for his return. Three months is the rule of thumb, Halladay said. His rotator cuff is more damaged now than it was last year, when the bone spur wasn’t a factor. He just recently began feeling the pain as the spur continued to create more of a tear. Halladay defined it as a partial tear of the rotator cuff. He seemed genuinely upbeat about the prognosis, saying that he feels less lost now than he did before seeing the doctor.

Halladay, who went into his doctor’s visit open-minded of any outcome, also said removing the bone spur will allow his arm to get “deeper in a cocking position,” which is hot.
