Bryce Brown’s dog… training

This story has the potential to spin out of control and be taken out of context. From the sounds of it, Bryce Brown was in no way involved in a dog fighting ring. He put his Pit Bull, Ellis, in a Wisconsin kennel for studding services (and for the subsequent weaning), and that kennel is now being investigated on dog fighting-related charges.

In May, Ellis and her seven puppies were seized from the shelter by authorities, who discovered scarring on some of the dogs there– mostly Pit Bills. This week, they were returned to Brown. He is not suspected of any wrongdoing. It seems… he just chose the wrong kennel: [Leader Telegram]

Brown, who did not appear in court Friday, purchased Eilis in 2010, and the dog has been a pet, according to an affidavit. He sent her to Northland Pits for stud services in February. After a week, she was returned to Brown in Wichita, Kansas.

Shortly before the birth of her puppies, Eilis returned to Northland Pits, where Sudbrink offered to whelp and wean the pups for Brown, who knew little about that, according to the affidavit. The dog and her puppies were seized, along with the others, when a search warrant was executed on May 21.

This sounds like an unfortunate circumstance and coincidence for Brown, who gets balls placed in his midsection by Michael Vick, but we’ll wait to see how it plays out. It is a bit… odd.. for an NFL player to be breeding his Pit Bull, apparently with the intention of selling the puppies.

Jeff McLane of Philly.com says that Brown is training the dogs for agility shows and such:

Brown posted a recent video of himself on his Facebook page training a dog to jump some feet in the air to grab a stuffed toy hung from a tree.

Among his friends are pit bull breeders around the world engaged in “extreme” agility training, involving wrestling with stuffed toys and pulling tires.

Video of that, um, feat is after the jump.
