Paul Holmgren silly season is here and we have some news tonight:

1) Josh Rimer of Sportsnet and our old friend Steve Whyno, now of The Canadian Press, are both reporting that the Flyers have informed Ilya Bryzgalov’s agent that the team will not amnesty Bryz.

I don’t doubt the accuracy of those reports, but I do doubt that will happen. The Flyers are going to have to do calculatorial gymnastics to get under the cap this year. Signing Mark Streit for $5.5 $5.25 million per didn’t help, and if there is legitimate interest in Jonathan Bernier, there’s no way the Flyers would keep Bryz. None. So… when did Homer tell Bryz’s agent this? Was it a month ago when Peter Luukko and those two Us and those two Ks told Howard Eskin that the team, for some uncomprehensiblefathomableholy reason, was leaning toward keeping Bryz? Or was it more recently? Remember, Homer lies. Just ask Jeff Carter (ducks).

2) According to multiple reports, Danny Briere has been informed that he will be bought out. He’ll have a job with the organization when he retires in a few years.

3) Tim Panaccio says the Flyers are, once again, interested in Bobby Ryan (BECAUSE OF COURSE THEY ARE!). And they may want to trade one of their few capable defensemen to get him:

Two NHL sources not associated with the Flyers tell CSNPhilly.com that the Anaheim Ducks are quietly shopping Ryan a week before the NHL draft in Newark, N.J., and that the Flyers are keenly interested.

Among the scenarios that have been discussed is the Flyers moving defenseman Braydon Coburn and their 11th overall pick in the draft.

No use in breaking down this further quite yet, because chasing every Bobby Ryan rumor will lead to chafing. And I don’t like being chafed.

Anyway, Paul Holmgren has his gun. It’s out. It’s silly season, and my God, we’re going to speculate the shit out of it. Get me a beer.

UPDATE: Frank Seravalli spoke to Bryz’s agent:

Oh this is going to be so good when Bryz gets bought out.
