Jason Peters’ 2011 mugshot

Jason Peters was arrested for drag racing and resisting arrest in Louisiana early Wednesday. From The News Star:

Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle and five-time Pro Bowler Jason Peters was arrested in Monroe early Wednesday morning after reportedly drag racing and resisting a police officer by flight.

According to the arrest affidavit, Deputy L. Deal observed a white Camaro and blue sedan at the red light of U.S. 165 North and Central Street. When the light turned green, the Camaro and sedan accelerated and appeared to be racing.

The deputy activated the emergency lights and attempted to pull over the vehicles. The driver of the sedan immediately pulled over, but Peters, who was driving the Camaro, accelerated to a high rate of speed, exited U.S. 165 North and proceeded eastbound on Interstate 20.

The Camaro exceeded speeds of 100 mph while the deputy was in pursuit. The Camaro then exited Interstate 20 at the Pecanland Mall exit. The Camaro finally stopped at the parking lot of 4209 Pecanland Mall Drive — the address for the shopping center that includes Target and Petco.

Insanely dumb. So incredibly dumb. This is Peters’ second arrest (he was arrested in 2011 for refusing to turn down the music in his car). He’s so dumb that you have to wonder what really caused him to tear his Achilles for a second time in 2012– why, exactly, did he fall off that Roll-A-About? Anyway, that’s speculation. And so too is this: Tuesday afternoon, Fletcher Cox tweeted a picture of two cars with the caption, “Normal day at the shop gettn the toys ready for tonight.” I asked him about it at the time:

He never responded.

Cox is at home in Mississippi. He’s from Yazoo City and is hosting a clinic there this weekend. Yazoo is only about 100 miles from Monroe, where Peters was arrested:

Seems more than coincidental, but we can’t be sure.

Cox works on cars at a family auto shop and has said he frequents the “drag strip.”

The Eagles issued a statement on Peters to Les Bowen of Philly.com:

“We are aware of the reports that Jason Peters was arrested this morning in Lousiana,” an Eagles spokesman said. “We have been in contact with Jason and due to the legal nature of this matter, we will not have any further comment at this point.”

Not like the Eagles need him or anything.
