I thought I would never have to spell this choad’s name again.

Nnamdi Asomugha, who wore number 24 with the Eagles, asked Anthony Dixon if he could wear – duplicate – his number 24 during training camp since all remaining numbers were taken and Asomugha would’ve been left with an embarrassingly high, rookie-esque pair of digits, of which he was probably deserving.

Dixon obliged.

But when it came time to finalize things this week, Dixon was unwilling to give up his number… even when he was offered $24,000:

Veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha offered Dixon that hefty sum of money to take over as No. 24 on the 49ers. But Dixon said he would not allowed No. 24 to be bought off his back.

“We tried to go $24K for 24, but I told him, ‘No, I’m going to keep my 24,” Dixon said on Tuesday.

“I worked hard to get that number when I first got here,” Dixon said. “I worked hard to get it off somebody else. I’ve been No. 24 since high school and college.”

Asomugha continued his quest to claim No. 24 on Tuesday. But Dixon told him, “I’m not ready to sell it, yet.”

Asomugha, who earned a roster spot as the 49ers’ third cornerback, was issued No. 28.

And yes, Virginia, this is the same league where someone felt it necessary to give players $200 in car service credits to deter them from driving drunk.

We assume Asomugha will keep trying to get the number… or just give up his pursuit and throw his hands up in disgust.
