And how is your Wednesday?

New Sixer Royce White* is being investigated for beating his girlfriend and throwing a candleholder at her, according to TMZ:

According to law enforcement, records show someone called 911 on June 22, 2013 to report a laceration above Tania’s right eye. Cops say at the time, Tania claimed she suffered the injury from an “accidental fall.”

But Tania changed her tune last week … and filed an incident report in which she claims she LIED on the night of the incident — and says in reality, Royce is to blame for her injury.

Cops say the incident is “under investigation” — and so far, no charges have been filed against the 22-year-old NBA player.

Sources connected to the investigation tell us … Tania claims Royce also grabbed a candleholder and threw at at her during the altercation … but it missed, instead smashing into a mirror and causing it to shatter.

Ah yes, the ol’ Phantom of the Opera assault gone astray. Happens to the best of them.

Here’s the thing, though: In January, White was the subject of a Real Sports segment about his anxiety and OCD, and just last week a mental health institute opened bearing his name– Royce White Institute of Mental Health:

White, who has been open about his own struggles with an anxiety disorder, said that he thinks every city should have a center where free mental healthcare is offered. He started the Anxious Mind’s Inc. group while in college at Iowa State, and this is the organization’s first partnership. He said he hopes to see it grow.

Of course the opening of the center came with a sunshiny piece about how great White is, even though White told Darren Rovell that he didn’t actually pay for the center… he merely allowed it to use his name.

Regardless, the Royce White Institute of Mental Health opening just days before the commencement of an investigation into whether White threw a candleholder at his girlfriend belongs in the Alanis Morissette Hall of Fame for things that are ironic**, don’t you think?

*Usually, I won’t introduce Philly athletes by their team, position, etc., but I feel that Royce White isn’t quite yet a… household name in Philadelphia.

**Yes, I know that nothing in that song was actually ironic and that these girls hilariously corrected Alanis. I also know that Ryan Reynolds being engaged to Morissette is one of the great tragedies of our time. Van Wilder most certainly wouldn’t have approved of this union… and that, too, could be considered ironic.
