Kyle… Help… I recently lost 215 pounds all my flyers jerseys are HUGE on me now… I need a New Jersey… But I’m sick of buying a player and they get traded in a year and I don’t wanna wear it anymore.. So I wanna get a new style jersey and customize it with a vintage player… Somebody a true flyers fan can appreciate… Who do I go?… Parent? Clarke?… My all time fav flyer is Hexy and he’s prolly gonna be the gm when Holmgren starts fellating snider with less vigor… Howe? Desjardins? Kerr?… Help me man who should I get?

First of all, you don’t need a New Jersey. You need a new jersey, not the state governed by Chris Christie, The Governor.

Agreed– don’t get a current player unless it’s G. Not even Paul Holmgren in a drunken rage and with a sticky PS 3 controller would move him.

I’m not a huge fan of the new-style customized with old player look. BUT. But there’s an acceptable loophole– the Winter Classic Alumni Game. They wore current jerseys. So, you can get an old player in the new style without penalty, provided he played in the game. God is good to you, my friend.

My thoughts on your suggestions:

Parent: Maybe. But he’s lost something since he’s revealed how totally out of touch he is in his Philly.com pieces.

Clarke: Never a bad choice. But it’s like choosing to root for Man U in soccer– everyone will get a Clarke.

Hexy: You don’t want a GM’s jersey. It’s like church and state.

Howe: Great choice, but he works for the Red Wings and identifies himself as much with that org. as he does the Flyers. Always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when an athlete has dual citizenship.

Kerr: Do you really want to wear a Shore realtor’s name on your back?

Desjardins: Bingo. I’m guessing you’re in your late 20s, early 30s. If so, Dej is as much a part of your Flyers memories as any. Had his best years of his career here. Never any problems. Well-respected and known, yet kind of obscure. Maybe left a bad taste in your mouth once he started doing that spinning on a top thing at the blue line his last couple of years, but overall a great player with a perfect Lou Nolan name – Eric Desjarrrrrrrdins – a knack for coming up big, and a great goal celebration.

His overtime goal against the Rangers in Game 1 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals (1:33) is one of my all-time favorite Flyers moments:

Get it without the C, though. Get the A.
