99 Problems and his teeth are one

Guess who’s back? Kinda like guess who sorta like I heard that he’s back, back like again? Tell a friend.

Charlie Manuel.

Jim Salisbury confirms Brian Startate’s report and adds some detail:

Manuel, who turned 70 earlier this month, will be a senior adviser to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. He will hold a similar position as Dallas Green. Manuel and Green, of course, are the only managers in club history to win a World Series. Manuel presided over the 2008 club, Green the 1980 club. Manuel won five NL East titles and two NL pennants during his time as Phils manager.

In his new role, Manuel is expected to work with minor-league hitters, evaluate minor-league players and handle scouting assignments during the regular season.

His first advice to Rube should be to fire Rube.

This is not surprising, although it seemed like Charlie wanted to manage again. Instead, he’ll get a much deserved soft landing and will be around the team and the game. Probably the Phillies’ biggest signing of the offseason.
