In HONOR of the Phillies’ long-awaited(?) Home Opener and Dan Baker’s inevitable MISPLACED but endearing INFLECTIONS, we roll out the THREE BEST Dan Baker impersonations we’ve received AS A RESULT of our podcast request. Despite a few challenges, THE FIRST entrant, TIM CARROLL, remains the best DB we’ve received.

In reverse order:

Second Runner-Up: John McBride

The voice isn’t really close, and neither is the script. In fact, it’s not really that good. But the inflections are there and, really, I think I was just won over by the Chase Utley and Kashmir parts at the end. Do appreciate the audio mixing effort, however.

Runner-Up: Patrick Tuthill

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/143691315″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_artwork=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Sounds adequately distressed, like he’s borderline constipated. The growl is on point, the staccato is perfect, and the script is frighteningly accurate in its irony. Needs a little more throat in there, though. Little too wispy sounding, like there’s silk blowing through the air. For his best calls, Baker will reach for some phlegm.

Winner: Tim Carroll

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/130872587″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_artwork=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

This is the standard. The voice isn’t exact, but the inflections and script are absolutely perfect. When doing these, it’s not about having the best sound, it’s about channeling the patterns and intentions of the subject. Tim does that and he does it well.
